Ancelotti rules out Asensio replacement if he leaves Real Madrid

  • by

Carlo Ancelotti insists that Real Madrid will not move to replace Marco Asensio if he leaves the club this summer. The Italian believes the club is well-stocked to cover for his departure.

Real Madrid have started the season in fine form, winning their first two matches. Los Blancos opened the season with a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup. Many thought Real Madrid would be active in the summer transfer window, but despite the buying spree of arch-rivals Barcelona, Madrid remain unperturbed about bolstering their squad.

Real Madrid signed only two players this summer and are not keen on signing another. Antonio Rudiger arrived from Chelsea on a free transfer, while Aurelien Tchouameni joined from Monaco for 80 million euros.

Rather than sign more players, despite losing Casemiro, Real Madrid are keen on letting more players off their wage bill and Ancelotti has declared that they will be signing no more players this summer even if Marco Asensio were to leave.

There have been rumours surrounding the future of Marco Asensio. The Real Madrid forward has links to Liverpool and Manchester United, yet his future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is still not sorted.

With the deadline for the transfer window approaching rapidly, it is unclear whether the Spanish forward will leave the club. Real Madrid are calm over his future and is in no rush to offer him a new deal. Carlo Ancelotti insists that the club has no plans to replace Asensio even if he leaves before the transfer deadline.

Asensio has not featured much this season and seems not highly ranked at the club. The 2022/23 season might be his last at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu as the 26-year-old has a contract that runs out at the end of the campaign. Nothing has come off the links away from the club.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are seriously interested in the Spain international, and Ancelotti alluded to Asensio harbouring an interest in leaving Real Madrid before the transfer window shuts.

Ancelotti has cover for Asensio

Ancelotti has been under increasing pressure over the future of the Spain international. During his press conference on Saturday, the Italian fielded questions about the Spanish forward. He maintains that while the club wants the player to stay, no one would stand in his way if he decides to leave.

Ancelotti said Asensio was evaluating his situation, but by September 2, everything would be clear. The Italian hopes Asensio remains at the club and would play a vital role if he stays.

The Los Merengues manager believes that Real Madrid is well stocked to cover the loss of the winger if he leaves the club, and there would be no need to make forays into the transfer market for a replacement before the end of the window.

Federico Valverde and Rodrygo Goes are currently ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order for a starting role on the right.

Ancelotti also confirmed that Dani Ceballos would not be leaving the club this summer despite rumours linking him with a move away from the club.

Asensio made 42 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid last season and scored 12 goals with two assists.
