Following recent reports, Barcelona who have been in desperate need for a winger are speculated to be making a move on Angel Di Maria.

With Ousmane Dembele set to depart this summer and the price for their first choice target Raphinha looking unfeasible, Di Maria looks likely to be their soft landing.

Reports have it that the club has turned their eyes to Angel Di Maria. The Argentine ran down his contract and PSG and is now a free agent, but it will be curious to see if he still joins Barcelona even with his Real Madrid’s ties.

Di Maria’s Masterclass in Wembley

The 34-year-old played a starring role in Argentina’s 3-0 trouncing of Italy in La Finalissima. He scored with a wonderful dink that left his former club teammate Donarruma helpless. Reminding all and sundry of his world-class quality. According to reports in Europe, his performance in the game has put top European clubs on alert, most recently Barcelona.

The Argentine has been linked with the club for some time now, and he was once announced as a new signing though it was discovered as a system glitch on the club’s website carried out by hackers. There is also a tale that while Lionel Messi was in Barcelona, he wanted Di Maria to replace Neymar, but for whatever reason, a deal failed to materialize and the club turned to Dembele and Coutinho.

However, since then he has been quietly linked with the club until Lionel Messi joined himself and Neymar at Paris Saint Germain. He joined the Paris giants after a woeful one year spell with Manchester United where he joined for 50 million pounds but was sold for 10 million pounds less to Paris. He also formed deadly attack combinations with the likes of Mauro Icardi, Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Kylian Mbappe.

Angel Di Maria has shown throughout his career that he is a man for the big occasions, and Barcelona signing him could prove to be a masterstroke given the quality he possesses and the fact that he will come on a free.

The 34-year-old moving to Catalonia will certainly strengthen and add more experience to the team’s attack as he has the league’s experience coupled with vast experience at the highest level of football. Everything points to him being a success at the club, but some news agencies in Spain have reported that Laporta is worried about his commercial viability and longevity.
