Barcelona complete the signing of Andreas Christensen

  • by

Barcelona have completed the signing of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea. The Danish centre-back joins the Catalan outfit as a free agent.

The transfer market is alive, and business is going on smoothly. While there are questions about the deal that kept Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain, curious glances should go over to Barcelona over how they’ve worked their books.

A heavily indebted club has managed to pull their chestnuts out of the fire and get signings for next season. It is a stroke of genius by Barcelona to be able to sign the players they did and still have eyes on other players. There is something unclear about the signings. Barcelona has sold part of their future so they can eat today. The success at Real Madrid must be eating deep into them.

The Catalan giants have done it again. While the chase for Robert Lewandowski continues, Los Blaugrana are plucking the low-hanging fruits. They are tempting the easy buys to choose Barcelona over the richer clubs. Barcelona have managed to sign another player, with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen pitching his tent with the Catalan giants.

Barcelona sign Christensen

Barcelona must receive applauds for how they worked their accounts to be functional this season. Though they will still operate a negative salary balance, they have managed to steer the boat to calmer waters.

Despite their dire financial situation, Barcelona still have the pull and have confirmed the signing of Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen. The signing came after the arrival of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie. Christensen joined Barcelona as a free agent and would complement the Barca defence.

Christensen refused to sign an extension at Chelsea and let his contract run down before agreeing to join Barcelona several months ago. It ended his ten-year spell with the Blues, where he won both the Champions League and the Europa League.

Upon the expiration of his contract, he appealed to Chelsea fans claiming it felt like the right time to move on, thus officially kicking off the next chapter of his career.

Finding a place in Barcelona

Andreas Christensen has signed a contract with Barcelona that sees him contracted to the Catalan giants for the next four years. Included in the four-year deal is a release clause worth €500 million. The presentation of the 26-year-old defender to the fans will take place on Thursday.

There is competition in defence for Christensen, but the former Chelsea centre-back is hopeful of tying down a permanent slot at the rear for Barcelona. With Ronald Araujo, Gerard Pique and Eric Garcia as options for the Barca manager, Christensen is hopeful of forcing his way into the first 11.

Barcelona will count on some clearout to make space in the team for their new signings. Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti are two players on their way out of the club. Lenglet is close to completing a season-long loan move to Tottenham. Umtiti is a subject of interest in France. Rennes is said to be interested in signing the World Cup winner.
