Juventus set to lose Morata and Bernardeschi after choosing against new contract offer

Juventus have decided to part ways with Alvaro Morata and Federico Bernardeschi in the summer, according to reports from Italian media.

Bernardeschi will be out of a contract at the end of the season and the club have chosen against renewing his contract, which will allow him to leave as a free agent. Morata, on the other hand, will be returning to his parent club Atlético de Madrid in the summer following the expiration of his two-year loan deal.

This is Morata’s second spell at Juventus, after having played for them between 2014 and 2016 following his signing from Real Madrid for €20 million. He had a buy-back clause inserted into the deal to sign him by Madrid, and the Spanish club chose to activate it two years into his five-year contract with Juventus.

Morata went on to Chelsea and then Atlético, his boyhood club where he stayed for two years, before Juventus took him on loan again. The Spain international has served Juventus well over those four years, scoring 59 goals and providing 39 assists in 158 games for them.

Bernardeschi, on the other hand, has been at Juventus since 2017, a year after Morata’s first exit, signing for five years from Fiorentina for €40 million. His contract is up, and Juventus have decided against renewing it, possibly due to the club making the signing of Federico Chiesa permanent in April.

Morata has won two Scudetto and three Coppa Italia titles in his two different stints with Juventus and Bernardeschi has won three Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia titles in his five seasons at the club.

Bernardeschi has not been linked with any clubs yet, but Morata has been linked to Barcelona as reports from Spain claim that Atlético are unwilling to have him back in the squad and want to move him on.

Juventus makes top 10 UEFA teams of the season

Elsewhere, Juventus is the only team from Italy to make the top 10 clubs in UEFA this season.

The Bianconeri were eight on the list, which was curated by the European football governing body based on the results of those competing in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League over the past five seasons.

Serie A leaders and potential champions AC Milan failed to make any of the competitions from 2014 to 2021, and they finished bottom of their group on their return and were eliminated.
