Liverpool deny ending Arthur Melo’s loan deal in January

  • by

Rumours suggest that Arthur Melo could be returning to Juventus in January but Liverpool have denied any suggestion linking the Brazilian with a move back to Turin before his loan deal is over.

Liverpool have been in dour form this season, with the Anfield side struggling to win matches. With injuries plaguing the club early in the season, rumours have emerged over the future of loan signing Arthur Melo. There are suggestions that the Reds have already grown tired of the Brazilian.

Liverpool can do with all the help it can get as they already trail Manchester City and Liverpool by a massive gap. The loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford suggests deeper problems at Anfield.

The new signings have not earned their wages. The problem at Liverpool is worsened by rumours of an early exit by Arthur Melo, who joined on loan this summer.

Liverpool debunk rumours of an early exit for Melo

Since arriving from Juventus on loan this summer, Arthur Melo is yet to make a 90-minute appearance for Liverpool. With the situation at Anfield not encouraging, the rumour mill is already agog with suggestions that Liverpool are keen on sending the Brazilian back to Turin in the winter. There are many reasons for the reluctance to keep Melo at the club beyond January. Liverpool have refuted the reports.

Liverpool signed the Brazilian midfielder on a season-long loan from the Bianconeri on the deadline day of the transfer window. The late move for Melo was due to an injury plague that hit the club’s midfield. Klopp has insisted on keeping to the terms of the loan deal, which means having Melo at Anfield till the end of the season.

The lack of football for Melo has not made Klopp think of sending him back to Italy in January. Arthur has only made one appearance this term for the Reds. He was a substitute for Liverpool in the 4-1 Champions League loss to Napoli.

An injury crisis at Anfield

At various times, Liverpool has had different players out to injury. Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were sidelined with hamstring injuries, while Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita are currently receiving treatment for their problems. Thiago is the only one back to fitness, but the others should be back after the international break.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Arthur will remain at Anfield till the end of the season as the Reds need every available leg.

Arthur is yet to reach maximum fitness and is working to regain match fitness. With Brazil taking on Tunisia and Ghana in upcoming matches, Arthur will not feature. It gives him more time to acclimatise to his new abode.

The Premier League game against Chelsea this weekend was an opportunity for him to make his full debut for the club. The match was postponed due to police limitations. The postponement is due to the funeral of the Queen, which comes up on Monday.

In their next Premier League game, Liverpool hosts Brighton on October 1. The Reds could be 12 points behind Arsenal by that day.
