Manchester United agree deal to sign Christian Eriksen on a three-year contract

  • by

Manchester United have agreed in principle to sign Christian Eriksen from Brentford. The Red Devils agreed on a three-year deal with the Danish midfielder.

Is there a transfer plan at Manchester United? United are launching at any player that seems available and cheap in the market. Since the season ended, the Red Devils have had their name linked to several players in the market without any arriving.

Many United fans had expected a massive injection of funds for player signings amid player clearouts. The only clearout that has taken place at Old Trafford is the departure of players whose contracts have expired. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have all left the club following the expiration of their contracts.

Many have argued that some of the regular faces in the team like Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are not Manchester United standard, but they remain while Cristiano Ronaldo continues to find a way out of the club. Manchester United seem to be pursuing several players either because other clubs are after the player or he is cheap and available.

One wonders about the formula at play here. The three-time Champions League winners have concluded another coup. They have won the race to sign Christian Eriksen. The midfielder will move to Old Trafford on a free transfer after half a season at Brentford.

Manchester United beat others to Eriksen

Manchester United have links to several players, many of them with Dutch connections, yet only one has arrived. The English heavyweights have lost the power in their punch as they struggle to convince players to choose Old Trafford. Gone are the days when the mention of Manchester United made things happen, but the club has degenerated to a level where only players rejected by other clubs are keen on signing for them.

Manchester United have managed to sign a player. They have landed Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The midfielder who collapsed at Euro 2020 following a heart issue returned to football this year. Eriksen saw his short-term contract at Brentford expire last week. The Bees intended to extend his contract at the club after convincing performances since his January arrival.

With Brentford stalling on an offer to Eriksen, Manchester United reached an agreement with the Danish midfielder over a three-year deal. It is not such a massive deal as Eriksen had rejected advances from Manchester United three years ago while he was at Tottenham.

Tottenham had talked up the idea of bringing their former player Eriksen back home but eventually abandoned the idea and cooled off their interest in him.

Christian Eriksen joined Brentford in January, and once he regained full fitness, he lit up the Premier League with standout performances that attracted attention from other clubs. Eriksen was instrumental in keeping the Bees in the Premier League as they won seven of their final 11 games.
