PSG prepare to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino

  • by

Paris Saint-Germain and Mauricio Pochettino are set to part ways ahead of the new season according to reports.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager took charge of the French giants 18 months ago and was able to lead the club to three titles in that time. However, he has failed on delivering his chief mandate which is the UEFA Champions League and has not made it easy for his case due to the humiliation of his last exit from the tournament.

This ambition saw them pull off a coup on some of the world’s best clubs to secure some of the best players in the world for the club last season. Despite the arrivals of Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum, the club under the Argentine have underachieved in the tournament.

This is contrary to the club’s aims and as a result, they are looking to part ways with him and get in a new manager who can help deliver the much coveted European title to Parc De Princes.

PSG set sights on Zinedine Zidane as Pochettino’s successor

The club is now looking to appoint Zinedine Zidane to the role for the French football legend to bring his Champions League expertise to the club.

Zidane was famous as a player but is more famous for his run as Real Madrid manager which saw him win the Champions League three times in a row. That made Real Madrid not just the first club to retain the title, but to win it three consecutive times.

He also broke the hold Barcelona had on LaLiga in the past few years and that has upset the balance in the league.

However, PSG’s desire to bring the legendary footballer and manager to Parc De Princes will be faced with some resistance. Not only is Zidane a fan of PSG’s eternal rivals Olympique de Marseille, he nurses the desire to take over from Didier Deschamps as France’s coach after the World Cup.

Deschamps is speculated to retire after the World Cup and Zidane, who has been vocal about his ambition, is calmly biding his time.
