The quadrennial football event known as the World Cup 2022 will begin in late November, both figuratively and physically. After being held in Russia in 2018, it has moved to Qatar. Starting off Group B on Monday, November 21 are matches between England and Iran and Wales and the United States.
The final will be played on Sunday, December 18, and will be the culmination of the next several weeks of competition between 32 teams in eight groups. Find out who will play who and how you can follow the action at the 2022 World Cup right here.
Those in the United States who are interested in watching the World Cup 2022 can do so via the Fox Sports App and Peacock Premium, as well as on Fox, FS1, Telemundo, and Universo, all of which can be accessed via standard cable packages or live TV streaming services like FuboTV, Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV.
For the first week of the competition, matches begin at an ungodly hour for most Americans, 5 am ET (2 am PT) when the tournament moves to the Middle East. The good news is that all of the United States’ group stage matches will kick off at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.
Ofcom(opens in new tab) laws guarantee that all World Cup matches will be broadcast on British terrestrial television at no cost to viewers.
The broadcast rights are split between BBC and ITV, and games may also be seen on BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub, respectively. When the tournament gets closer, we’ll know for sure which games will show on which channels.
On the first eight days of the tournament, kickoffs are scheduled for 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m., making it very accessible for fans in the United Kingdom. To your luck, your supervisor probably won’t frown upon your joining the early Zoom meeting.
Qatar, in the Middle East, will host the World Cup in 2022. Group A’s first encounter pits Senegal against the Netherlands at Al Thumama Stadium, while hosts Qatar face Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium a few hours later. All of the matches will take place at one of eight venues located in and around Doha.

Despite having new LA Galaxy sensation Gareth Bale in their ranks, Wales will show to be a dangerous opponent in their first match. The United States’ best hope of advancing is a victory against Iran in their last match.
The bookmakers have Brazil, France, and England as their top three picks to win the tournament. Spain, Germany, and Argentina are all predicted to perform well.

The World Cup in Qatar is, to put it mildly, controversial. The alleged abuse of the hundreds of thousands of mostly migrant construction workers who have created the tournament’s infrastructure almost entirely from scratch is one of the worst elements.
They have reportedly been made to work in debilitating temperatures, frequently without any safety precautions, and to live in overcrowded, deplorable conditions with hundreds of other workers for meager wages, if any at all.
Ten years after the World Cup was given to Qatar, claims(opens in new tab) suggest that hundreds of workers have died on the project, and those who have protested over unpaid salaries have been jailed and deported. They also have a famously hard time switching careers.
Construction of the stadiums is not the only contentious aspect of the games. Women in Qatar need the approval of a male “guardian” to marry, leave the country for a job or school, or to get reproductive health care.
To add to the challenge, divorce is much more difficult for women to start. Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter said in 2010(opens in new tab) that homosexual supporters “should avoid any sexual activity” because of the severity of the penalties for same-sex partnerships (up to seven years in jail).
Amos Adamu, a former member of the FIFA Executive Committee, was banned for three years(opens in new tab) over allegations. He tried to sell his votes for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
It was proved that suspicions of corruption were well-founded even before the FIFA vote(opens in new tab) that gave Qatar the World Cup. Although the Garcia investigation exonerated both Russia and Qatar of bribery and corruption in their 2014 World Cup bids, such concerns have only grown in the following years.
Tickets for the 2022 World Cup may be purchased up to the World Cup final on December 18, however, FIFA has designated this last stretch of sales as the “Last Minute Sales Phase.”
The most popular matches are likely to be sold out, and you’ll need to register for an account with FIFA Ticketing(which opens in a new tab) to get tickets.
Of course, there are many resale tickets available online, and some of them are being sold for astronomically high prices (for example, on Live Football Tickets, one ticket is now being offered for sale for over £1,000). (opens in new tab).
