Timo Werner to complete RB Leipzig return in permanent transfer

  • by

Chelsea have agreed to sell Timo Werner to RB Leipzig this summer. The German striker had given an ultimatum of regular playing time, or he would leave the club.

The Blues have started the season on a good note. They began the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton. However, the victory exposed the glaring lack of strike power on the side.

Chelsea laboured all evening to break down a stubborn Everton. They were unlucky till a late first-half penalty gave them the lead.

As Todd Boehly is in the market scouring for players to sign, it would be best to sign a striker for his team. The games will come thick and fast, and the current strike force does not look competent enough to strive for the title.

With Lukaku at Inter Milan, Chelsea have not had links to any striker. Instead, the club that won the Champions League two seasons ago is keen on offloading some of its attacking players. Recent reports suggest that the Blues want to send Timo Werner away from the club.

Returning to where he came from

Timo Werner has not been a hit at Stamford Bridge. The German striker has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League, and it seems Chelsea have run out of patience for him.

Thomas Tuchel struggled to find a way to get the best out of Werner. The German striker is also frustrated with his lack of game time and the inconsistency in his game.

With Timo Werner and Chelsea agreeing that something has to give, the Blues are willing to let him go, with RB Leipzig ready to receive their former forward. Werner left Leipzig two years ago, and the Bundesliga side have already agreed on a fee with Chelsea for the striker.

There have been rumours this summer of Timo Werner leaving Stamford Bridge. Werner also fueled those rumours when he declared he was ready to leave Chelsea if Tuchel could not guarantee regular game time.

Other interested parties

A couple of clubs had declared interest in signing the German international, with Juventus monitoring the player’s situation at Chelsea. Unfortunately, Juve have missed out on the German striker. According to Fabrizio Romano, Werner is leaving Chelsea on a permanent transfer to RB Leipzig.

Chelsea seems to have become a club where strikers struggle to make a mark. Many came before Werner and perished. Players like Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain fall in this category. After two seasons, Werner leaves the club the same way the others did.

The German came to Chelsea on the back of an impressive record. He scored 95 goals and produced 40 assists in 159 games before moving to Stamford Bridge for £47.5million.

At Chelsea, his form dropped as he could only score 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 matches. About half of these came in the Premier League.

Werner made some vital contributions to Chelsea’s achievements, but they were not enough for him to command a regular shirt. He was not in the squad that beat Everton on the opening day of the Premier League.
