West Ham complete signing of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola

  • by

West Ham United have concluded a deal with PSG to sign Alphonse Areola on a permanent deal. The French goalkeeper had a fantastic loan spell with the Hammers last season.

Few names would come up as the challengers for the Premier League title. Manchester City remain the favourites to win the league, but they’re not resting on their oars. They have signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to bolster their attack. Other teams are merely playing catch-up.

One team that will not feature among the title challengers is West ham. The Hammers came close to cracking the top four last season but fizzled out towards the end of the season. They also failed to win the Europa League and would look to do better.

West Ham simply do not have the financial output of Manchester City and Liverpool, but their ambitions are not the same. West Ham would give a go at qualifying for the Champions League and have started working towards it. The David Moyes-led side have signed goalkeeper Alphonse Areola permanently to boost their chances of making the top four.

Areola turns loan spell into a permanent deal

Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has ended his spell at the Paris club. The 29-year-old goalkeeper completed a permanent move to east London side West Ham. The Hammers signed the goalkeeper who spent last season on loan at the London club on a five-year deal.

David Moyes is excited at having the French goal tender at West ham permanently.

Areola has been around a bit. He was on loan at Lens, Bastia, Villarreal, Real Madrid and Fulham before joining West Ham. Moyes was impressed by the permanent signing of the goalkeeper and said Areola made a massive contribution to the club as they challenged on different fronts last season. According to Moyes, Areola showed why West ham sees him as a top goalkeeper.

Moyes also added that Areola possesses proven quality and experience at the highest level. The Hammers manager believes his experience domestically and internationally will benefit the club. Moyes said he is delighted to have the shot-stopper and can’t wait to welcome him back for pre-season.

Excited to be at West Ham

Finally, Areola has a permanent home, and he couldn’t hide his delight at seeing the deal with West ham done. He claims he had no issues turning his loan spell at West Ham into a permanent deal. Alphonse Areola is eager to get to work with manager David Moyes.

In a statement, Areola said he felt great and was happy to sign and stay at West ham permanently. The goalkeeper enjoyed the vibe at the club last season but is under no illusion about the job at hand. He says he has to do his job and everything to make the fans and the club happy.

With the signing of Areola done, West Ham are now pursuing other targets. The Hammers are keen to sign Jesse Lingard. The Englishman is a free agent, and the deal should not pose too many problems. Armando Broja is another player that interests the Hammers.
